Leonard Cohen on Hydra - Songs & Tales of Bohemia


George Johnston and Charmian Clift were two Australian writers who gave up secure careers in journalism for the literary life on an exotic Greek island. The arrived on Hydra in 1956 and stayed for 9 years. They presided over a bohemian community of artists and writers which at different times included Sidney Nolan, Peter Finch, Allen Ginsberg, Tony Randal, Melina Mercouri, Tony Perkins and a young Leonard Cohen. 
Through stories and songs this musical production tells of George Johnston and Charmian Clift's arrival on Hydra in 1956. The arrival of the unknown Canadian poet, Leonard Cohen in 1960, his meeting and life with Marianne and friendship with George Johnston and Charmian Clift.  It was on Hydra that Leonard Cohen gave his first ever concert and then towards the end of the 60s emerged as a singer/songwriter.


Chris Fatouros - Vocals and Guitar
Chris Fatouros is a well-known Melbourne guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, producer, sound engineer, and vocal coach. He has produced, marketed and sold tens of thousands of cover CDs as well original albums over the past decade.

Proficient on vocals, acoustic guitar and electric guitar across a varied range of styles, Chris is a highly sought-after contemporary local artist. Furthermore, Chris has been a regular fixture across various festivals and music events in metropolitan Melbourne as well as regional Victoria. He has developed a wide following during his more than 15 years as a performing musician.

When not rehearsing, teaching, or writing songs, Chris will be found pursuing his passion for producing music. He has mixed, engineered, and mastered many projects including: demos and albums by local artists as well and soundtracks for promotional videos and advertisements.

His involvement in the performance and production of the "Leonard Cohen on Hydra" show takes him in the exciting new direction of Musical Theatre, for which he has always had a passion, and is now thrilled to be finally exploring.  


Spiros Falieros - Keyboards and Vocals
Spiro Falieros was born in Toronto, Canada soon after his family migrated to Australia. He studied classical music at Melbourne University, before embarking on a varied performance career as a singer, keyboard-player and piano-player.

Spiro's musical career has spanned 20 years and has covered a range of musical styles including: jazz, piano bars, top 40 cover bands, and even ethnic music.

A Leonard Cohen fan since his university days, Spiro is delighted to be involved with this show, which recounts the beginnings of his compatriotís song-writing career in the 1960s, whilst on the Greek Island of Hydra, the birthplace of Spiroís maternal grandmother.
